Statement read by D46 Parent at May 7th Board Meeting

Bringing Spady to our district has really opened my eyes. I think even more important than the Strategic Design Process are the changes going on in our district and what philosophies of education are guiding the district. I think it would be important for the administration to state their educational philosophy in addition to assisting the community in understanding all the new terms and strategies being applied in our district.

In my contact over the past few months with other parents, teachers, administrators and board members, I have come across many terms being used in our district that I want to better understand. I have read about some of these terms in books and other resources; but I am most interested in understanding how our district interprets and implements these. I also believe that many other parents in our district feel the same; and therefore, request that you post your response on the D46 website similar to what you did with the “Target” information which I think is a great start.

   2. The Stage of Implementation
        a. Evaluation Time Frame?
        b. Testing Time Frame: When and Where
        c. Full Implementation Plan
        d. How long has our district used this strategy/date of introduction
   3. Grade Levels affected
   4. Research Supporting Reason for Introduction and/or Continuation
        a. Previous Proven Success
        b. How do they help children learn better?
        c. What research supports that these methods improve learning?
   5. Perceived benefit for D46 Students
   6. For items yet to be implmented: What will this strategy replace or
       how is it different than what we were doing before?
